travel guides | boyne city, michigan
Last fall, my husband & I were in search of a weekend getaway that was within 3 hours, budget friendly, and allowed us to see Michigan’s fall colors in full force. Boyne City, Michigan met the criteria and absolutely didn’t disappoint.
getting to Boyne City
Driving from Grand Rapids to Boyne City was about 2.5 - 3 hours, but driving in northern Michigan in the fall is always beautiful because of the leaf colors! Once you reach fall in Michigan, most of the construction is done so you’re not dealing with as many (if any) delays.
where we stayed
Since it was a one-night stay, we splurged on this adorable a frame cabin in Boyne Falls. We’d gladly stay here again!
delicious food & drinks
The Back Lot - This adorable place had tacos, drinks, outdoor & indoor seating, and great vibes.
Red Mesa Grill - Tons of delicious comfort food. I loved their soups!
Lake Charlevoix Coffee Company - Delicious coffee & pastries in the heart of downtown Boyne City.

things we did
Pond Hill Farm - We ended up at Pond Hill Farm during their big fall festival weekend. The food & drinks were delicious and super reasonably priced, there were apples & pumpkins for sale, and tons of fun outdoor games available for an additional charge. We spent a few hours here and loved it!
Explore Boyne City & Falls - Boyne Mountain is a ski resort just outside of Boyne City. It’s also home to the SkyBridge - we opted to not do this, as it was raining most of our trip and we were concerned it would get shut down. However, if it’s a beautiful day, consider the SkyBridge and take a walk around the Boyne Mountain property afterwards!
Avalanche Preserve & Overlook - Avalanche has a nice uphill (mostly stairs) walk to a few overlooks that look out over Lake Charlevoix. It’s fairly doable in a short time, and the views at the top are worth it.
